About the very first Christmas that you and I spent together
What a beautiful Christmas card you gave me that year
Why I know you must have looked through thousands of cards
To find that wonderful poem that still brings a tear to my eyes
FYI That song is Jim Reeves an old Christmas card, it’s actually extremely moving and you can check it out here.
Now, moving on to the purpose of this post, I’m going to try and convince you to send out some last minute Christmas cards to your family and friends in a bid to show them you’re thinking of them this Christmas. Throughout the year we are usually extremely busy and only see a handful of friends and family during this time and sometimes we can neglect the odd aunt and our cousin. My family is spread across the UK and therefore since moving to Swansea when they do visit I usually cannot get back to my hometown in time to see them, however, from this year onwards I’m determined to send out Christmas cards to all those who are important to me who I might not have had the chance to visit or speak to much, why? Because it’s my way of showing that I’m thinking of them. This year I send out almost 30 cards, I also wrote out cards for my partners family so that he could do the same and so far there has been a great response and it’s actually given people a purpose to give me a ring, see what’s going on and catch up.
So why not just give them a ring in the first place?
Well, it’s not very festive to begin with, secondly, I can’t believe how many people I don’t have contact numbers for or even addresses, it was like an MI5 operation just trying to get addresses but once I did I really enjoyed sitting down in front of the TV and writing a heartfelt message to those I’ve missed. For grandparent’s, in particular, I think it really makes their day to have something they can pop up on their mantelpiece over Christmas.
And finally, just as much as I like sending Christmas cards, I love receiving them too and this year I bought some string and pegs especially to put up my Christmas cards over our mantelpiece too. So, I think you should spread some Christmas cheer this year and send out some Christmas cards to your family and friends.
What are your thoughts on sending out Christmas Cards?
