Birmingham Christmas Market

Birmingham Christmas Market

I recently took a trip to Nuneaton to visit my partners family and whilst I was there we organised a visit to the Birmingham Christmas market whilst there we also organised ice skating. When we arrived at Birmingham Christmas market on a Saturday in late November what was pretty interesting to me is that is smack bang in the middle of all the Christmas shops which meant it was a bit of a nightmare with huge crowds of shoppers and quite a few individuals who had had a little too much mulled wine.

The market itself was not as big nor as diverse as I was expecting, a lot of the stalls were selling the exact same products as the stall three doors down which also meant there was not as much variety as I expected. Whilst at the market I bought two hats and one cute little candle holder with the pattern of an old town surrounded by snow. We ventured up towards the food and drink areas of the market and were surrounded by pushy crowds of people, it was difficult to get through and again there was little variety with everyone selling the same thing.

To me what was most disappointing was there were not any craft stalls, on arriving at Birmingham my partner and I were most looking forward to the craft stalls, however, according to the Birmingham mail, the Christmas Craft Market was cancelled for 2017 because of the £10 million redevelopments taking place in Centenary Square. To say the least, our experience was pretty anti-climactic and the best bits for me was the ice skating and finally getting to try a Christmas Dinner in a giant Yorkshire pudding roll, I would consider going back next year on the premise that the Craft market is back up and running.

On the other hand, we had a fabulous time ice skating and my partner turned out to be a mysteriously good, whereas I turned out to be pretty poor in comparison to last year, nevertheless, I managed to full on kick the feet out from under a father and his daughter whilst on the ice and ended up really hurting my wrist. Typical me.
